Although thoroughly briefed and mentally prepared, the Year 6 pupils set out on their trip to Gopeng, Malaysia with some trepidation. Questions about the activities and what wildlife would be in the jungle were raised, the main concerns however, focused on would they be able to go shopping and who was going to wash up. In some cases, what was washing up!
After a rather bumpy flight and sleepy coach transfer, we arrived and the children quickly settled into Earth Camp and their dormitories as the rain lashed down. Once the activities began the next day surely all would be okay. First up was the trek. This provided the children with a fantastic opportunity to view the local area, community and see industries, such as a rubber plantation, first hand. Many of the Year 6 quickly realised, however, that playing games on a computer does not prepare you for trekking!
The afternoon cave adventure brought smiles back to faces and allowed the children to get their hands on the local geology, whilst crawling through a stream by torchlight.
The children then learnt about river safety and rescue, followed by a scenic raft trip down the river. Mountain School, with its zipwire, rock courses and leap of faith, providing challenges that everyone rose to admirably. Going to Earth Camp was a great experience. I got to do a lot of things that normally, I wouldn‘t dare do. Most of which, such as zip-lining, rock climbing (on an actual rock), rafting, caving and a lot more, were extremely fun!
We also learnt a lot of new things, such as washing dishes, for those that had never done it before, how to be safe in a river and a lot more. A lot of people that went to Earth Camp actually became more responsible and grown-up, resulting in more freedom, something which for some, we thought would never happen!‖ Over the course of the week it was great to see individuals and groups develop confidence and self-belief. New friends encouraged each other to complete challenges and work as a team to succeed, and also avoid the dreaded washing up duty. All the children learnt something about themselves and can be very pleased with what they achieved during the week.

FINALLY, THIS WAS AN AWESOME TRIP AND I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER IT....
( will post pics, once I get them on my hardrive )
